Dear Parents

What a great start to the school year. I have been most impressed with the positive attitude of both staff and students as we settle into a massive year of fun and learning. We have a wonderful school here at Rapid Bay, it really is a privilege to “work” at such an amazing school.

New Staff
We welcome several new staff for 2019. Sarah King is teaching 4 days a week in the Upper Class and providing NIT for classroom teachers. Jane Brewer is working 2 days a week, teaching the JP class and running playgroup. Helen Maidment is teaching the middle primary, as well as several other roles across the school.

Reception
We welcome our new Reception students to Mrs Hudson and Jane’s class. I know our older students will make sure they feel welcome at the best school in the world!

Open Night
It was great to see so many people last week. Those who attended would have received a parent handbook, detailing the routines and policies of our school. Copies are available for families that could not make it.

School Captains
A huge congratulations to our school captain Della Williss and vice-captain Jevin Brown. You are both very deserving of the title and I know you will be excellent mentors and role models for our younger students.

Future Communications
From now on the newsletter will be email format only. We hope to utilise digital communication for notification and forms in the future where possible.

Welcome to our new teachers Sarah King and Jane Brewer

Hi everyone, as some of you already know I am Sarah King and I am lucky enough to be a part of the Rapid Bay Primary School teaching team for term 1. I will be working with the middles on Tuesdays and the uppers on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. I have enjoyed getting to know the students over the past couple of weeks and look forward to continuing our learning journey.
In previous years I have thoroughly enjoyed working as a relief teacher across the Fleurieu Peninsula and also on a part time basis at Port Elliot Primary School. It was great to meet some of the parents on open night and I hope to meet more of you soon. Please don’t hesitate to contact me through the school if you have any further questions or concerns.
Sarah

Hello Rapid Bay Families!
My name is Jane Brewer and I have joined your lovely school this term to run Play Group on Thursday mornings and teach in the Junior Primary class on Thursday afternoons and Fridays.
Last year I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I absolutely love working with young children at the beginning of their schooling journey and creating playful learning experiences for them.
I live in Victor Harbor with my partner Steven, who is also a teacher, and our two daughters who are 8 and 11. I grew up in the Adelaide Hills and previously lived in Waikerie for 7 years where Steven was teaching.
Thankyou to the staff and students for a warm welcome to your school and I am looking forward to meeting many families over the term.

Brightpath

On Thursday 7th February, Helen and Sarah attended a Brightpath introductory workshop for teachers. We learnt a lot about what Brightpath is and how it can help our students improve their writing. Brightpath is based on over a decade of research at the University of Western Australia. Many schools participated in a South Australian trial in 2018 and the program is now being implemented in schools. Essentially Brightpath is a writing assessment tool that teachers can use to compliment their teaching programs. Brightpath will allow us to further target the individual needs of our students and help them set goals and develop their skills.
We still have a lot of learning to do but we hope to have the program up and running very soon. There is another training day on Monday 18th February so please support our teachers as we embark on this learning journey.

Student Representative Council - SRC
Della, Jevin, Ella and Harry have been lucky enough to be elected for the UP S.R.C representatives. We are very excited about this term and we have many ideas for fun activities such as crazy hair day, fundraisers and stalls. We will keep you updated in the newsletters.

School Captain
For those who don’t know me my name is Della and this year I have been lucky enough to be elected school captain. I believe that a school captain should be organised, enjoy helping out and being friends with everyone. A school captain should also be confident, have good leadership skills and always persevere. I promise as a school captain I will help solve problems in the school yard, help anyone who needs help and make sure everyone is having a great time at The BEST School in the World.

Vice-Captain
I am very excited to be elected Vice-Captain for 2019. As Vice-Captain I guarantee that I will sort all bullying out and make sure that everyone is nice and happy at our school. I am committed to being a responsible, kind, helpful role model that all students can talk to.
