End of Term 3

Dear Rapid Bay Families,
Can you believe we are nearing the end of Week 7 already? It has been another incredibly busy term and things are not slowing down anytime soon!

Camp
Staff and students are getting excited as the camp draws closer. An itinerary and list of items to bring are being finalised and will be sent home soon.

Have your say forum
Thanks to everyone who attended the Year 7 to high school regional consultation. There is still an opportunity to have your say. Just follow the link provided to provide your input - https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/decisions/year7/participations

Mayors Short Story Competition
I had the privilege of attending the Presentation Night for the Mayor’s Short Story Competition last night. Massive congratulations to Royce and Della who both were short listed for their age group, as well as Kooper who won the Year 3/4 competition.
All three students represented our school with distinction and should be proud of their achievements.

Books Books Books
We all know how important reading is. A great way to improve reading ability is to develop a passion and love for reading. Scholastic have some great books at fantastic prices in their Book Club catalogues. By purchasing through the Book Club, you are also supporting the school as we earn reward discounts for books purchased.

Pat Testing
Our Year 3-7 students are currently undertaking Reading and Maths testing. These tests provide an excellent work insight into student growth and achievement. They also allow staff to identify areas for our students to improve on in the future.

AUTISM AWARENESS

On Wednesday 4th September I had the privilege of attending an Autism SA workshop for teachers. This workshop raised awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder and embedded effective strategies that can be used within the classroom and school environment for all students.
This workshop has broadened the range of strategies that I will be able to implement across the classroom. It has also highlighted the importance of communication with families and understanding the individual student qualities and attributes which can shape the strategies used for teaching and learning.
I am exploring the option of having an Autism SA consultant attend our school to do a workshop with students and parents to ensure a deep understanding of how ASD can affect people all around us. I will keep everyone updated about this when I know more! Autism SA also provide workshops for parents that can be accessed using NDIS funding. If you are interested to find out more please visit www.autismsa.org.au/.

All the books pictured below from Issue 6 are bargains and cost no more than $4 and some as little as $1.60 each!
These and many more bargains can be ordered online at http://www.scholastic.com.au/schools/bookclub/ or send cash or cheque to school with the order.
