Camp

Dear Rapid Bay Families

This term has really flown by. Can you believe our camp is less than a week away? Please ensure payment and forms are returned asap if they haven't been already.

Jump Rope For Heart
We are looking forward to the Jump Off on Friday. I am pleased to announce we have reached our $2000 goal. Well done to all students for your fantastic efforts for this great cause.

Naplan Results
Naplan results will be sent home soon. Please remember these are just one source of information about your child's progress. Please contact the classroom teacher with any queries or questions in regards to the results. Staff will be spending time analyzing the results to help inform their future teaching.

As we near the end of another busy term, I want to thank all members of the school community, students, parents/carers and staff for their contributions to our wonderful school. Sometimes life is so busy that it is easy to forget how lucky we are to have the opportunity to work with the amazing students we have in such a beautiful and unique setting. Thank you all for your continued support and contributions to "the best school in the world."
Last week our year 1 students undertook the Phonics Screening Check as part of a statewide initiative to track and improve early literacy skills in South Australian students.
This test gives us a lot of information about what our students understand about printed English and allows teachers to plan early interventions which directly target individual and whole class needs.
2018 was the first year the South Australian Education Department undertook this massive endeavour. Across South Australian public schools, 5,951 year 1 students (43%) showed that they met the expected achievement by correctly decoding 28 words or more out of 40.

This year our students at Rapid Bay showed great understanding of the building blocks of reading.
  • 66% of our year ones achieved above 33/40
  • 50% of our year ones achieved full marks 40/40
  • Throughout the test many of the year ones were able to make statements such as,
‘That’s a digragh!’
‘Oh, that’s magic ‘e’!’
Examples of some of the words which students needed to sound out included real words such as spoilt, strike, moist, fuel and reaching, and ‘alien names’ such as quorg, skarld, voisk and quigh. Some challenges there I think you would agree!
Congratulations to all of our year one’s in their excellent attitude toward their learning and their excellent results.
