Last Day of Term 2

Dear Rapid Bay families,
We are nearly at the halfway mark of another busy term. We had a great day at the tree planting at Cape Jervis last Friday. Students and staff enjoyed the day, working together to plant over 400 trees! It was another great example of our school making connections with the wider local community. The students represented the school with pride and were very well behaved. Many thanks to the Yankalilla District Council for funding the bus cost.

We have been fortunate to have Austin at school this week working on the mural on the library/office wall. It is looking amazing and is a fantastic representation of the local environment. We can’t wait to see the finished product and reveal to our community!

All students have been participating in the Child Protection Curriculum (CPC) lessons this term. The CPC is a mandated part of the curriculum and is taught across all year levels. Its aim is to help students develop skills and strategies to keep them safe. Information sheets detailing the topics covered will be uploaded to Skool Loop and newsletter, please take the time to read them so that you can discuss with your child whaty they learn during the lessons.

To acknowledge the beginning of Reconciliation Week we participated in a whole school acknowledgement of country from the cave at Rapid Bay. This site was chosen to acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional owners of the land we learn on. We have been learning about the Tjilbruke story and the significance of this site and story to the Kaurna people. We will be celebrating Reconciliation Week with a special day of activities next Tuesday the 1st of June. It is an important week on the calendar and an excellent opportunity to increase student knowledge of Indigenous Australian culture and to promote respect and understanding for all Australians.

A reminder that Monday 14th of June is a public holiday and there will be a Student Free Day the next day, Tuesday the 15th of June. On the Tuesday, staff will be involved in data analysis and planning for deeper learning.

We will be having a Pyjama Day on the Friday of Week 7. It has been organised by our school captains Lilly-Rose and Kooper. A gold coin donation will go to SRC fundraising. Warm chocolates/milos will be available on the day, also for a gold coin donation.

Have a great week everyone!
