Last Day of Term 2

Dear Rapid Bay families,

Welcome back for Term 2! I hope you got the chance to spend some quality family time with your child/children over the break.

Skool Loop
A reminder that all formal school communication will be via Skool Loop. Please ensure you have downloaded our Skool Loop app to ensure you receive important information. Please see the flyer in the newsletter if you need help.
Classroom teachers have made available passwords that allow you to subscribe to their class news as well as subscribing to the school group. Please check class dojo for the passwords and let us know if you have any other queries.

Pottery Auction
Our auction and exhibition was very successful! The feedback from the community and visitors has been outstanding. It was great to see members of the local community able to purchase items. We will reveal the final figures raised in the next newsletter.

A big thanks to Claire for all of her hard work organising and making the event possible. Thanks to Governing Council and also Mel Nicholson for their work to help make the event a success.

Student Free Day
Staff had a successful day of learning on Tuesday’s Student Free Day. We developed our Numeracy agreement and looked at how we can improve our maths teaching and learning outcomes even further.
Heidi Godden, a literacy expert with the Department, met with us to discuss phonemic and phonological awareness and teaching these skills across R-7. It was a very successful day, and we look forward to putting our work into action to improve learning outcomes for all students.

Art Mural
You may have heard about our exciting art mural project. The students will be working with artist Austin Nitsua to produce a mural for the back of the office wall. Austin has been working with the school collaborating and getting inspiration from our students working on designs for the mural. The mural will encapsulate important features of local Rapid Bay history and environment. We can’t wait to see the final design!

Delamere Flagpole Unveiling
Our MP and Up classes have been invited to attend the unveiling of the Old Delamere flagpole and plaque, adjacent to the Delamere Store, next Thursday the 6th of May.

The launch of the book “Old Delamere” by author Dr Margaret Morgan will follow the flagpole ceremony.

The staff and students look forward to attending this significant community event.
Please fill out and return excursion request form by Tuesday 4th May 2021.

NAPLAN online testing will take place this Term between the 11th -21st May for students in years 3, 5 and 7. A number of students underwent a “practice session” last term which went really well, and the students involved were positive about the new form of testing.

An information sheet for parents/caregivers is available at the bottom of this newsletter and on Skool Loop.

It’s important to remember that NAPLAN is just one form of data collection for our students, it does not assess all of what makes our students exceptional and unique.

The scores of this test will tell you how our students do on those particular days in
reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. They will not tell you everything.

Have a great week,
