Dear Rapid Bay families,

Dear Rapid Bay families,
I can’t believe how quickly the term has gone. We are all very excited to be on camp and cannot wait to share the stories and photos of our experiences with you. Keep an eye out for our socials for updates and snapshots of our time away. We are also looking ahead to our 2022 camp, where we plan to travel to Kangaroo Island!

School Closure
A friendly reminder that Monday 6th September is a school closure day. Enjoy the long weekend with your family.

Book Week
Staff and students enjoyed an amazing Book Week last week. It was fantastic to see the students and staff all dressed up as their favourite book characters. The students enjoyed participating in a range of engaging activities organised and ran by our amazing staff. A big thanks to all staff and a special shout out to Jo for organising the week’s activities.

Father’s Day Stall
Thanks to Gina for organising the Father’s Day stall to be held whilst we are away on camp. We hope the students found something special for their dads.

Photo Day
Photo day is Thursday Week 8. Envelopes have gone home, and you can also order online. If you wish to have a family photo taken on the day, you need to contact the front office to request a form.

R U Okay day
Thursday Week 8 is also RU Ok day. The theme for this year is “Are they really OK? Ask them today?’. Ups and downs happen to everyone. Reach out and check on your friends, family and colleagues and check that they are doing ok. It is even more important with everything going on in the world today.

Results
As the year has progressed, staff have been busy analysing student data and making decisions about areas for future focus. The data collected includes Phonic Screening for Year 1 students, IntiaLit, Brightpath writing, Running Records for reading and Too Smart maths. The results across the board are extremely positive and encouraging and are vindication of the work staff are doing with the students. I look forward to sharing our Naplan and PAT testing data with you in upcoming weeks. All the results so far have been very pleasing, and I congratulate the students and staff for their hard work.

Welcome
We welcome Rachel back to Rapid Bay as an SSO. Rachel carried out her primary schooling at Rapid Bay and we are super excited to have her join us as an SSO on Fridays. Staff and students are really enjoying working with her and having her on board. Welcome Rachel!

Sports Day – Thursday 23rd
At this stage parents/Carers can come along for the day if you check-in and practice social distancing. Parents/Carers are not allowed on school grounds however toilets will be available at cricket club and campground. Food and beverages can only be consumed while seated. We are keeping a close eye on current conditions as they can change quickly. We will keep you updated with the latest.

Scouts
Scouts had an AWESOME "Night Walk" this past Friday night (27 August 2021) and Joeys and Cubs had a BRILLIANT "Camp Cooking" Experience on the Tuesday night before then (24 August)! Come along and join us - Joeys and Cubs doing Science Experiments this Tuesday; Scouts having a go at Comp Cooking Friday!

Enjoy this lovely weather!

“Word” from Governing Council Chairperson!

Rapid Bay Primary School’s Governing Council met for a General Meeting on Tuesday, 3 August 2021. Good news - the “Bus Report” has come back and there is “no change” for the next 2 years (to mid-2023!) Our Principal reported that she and other Staff have started a “Vision Board”. There are some particular maintenance, replacement and security expenses necessary for the “Main (brick) Building”. So far Rapid Bay Primary School (the School) will have 8 Year 7s next year (2022). The Department of Education (South Australia) will be sending out a “Parent Survey” and the Governing Council (on behalf of the School) encourages all Parents to submit your Feedback! The School will be sending out a Survey regarding Home Learning and support during the most recent Lock Down. At the moment the School plans to acquire 4 spare laptops and “dongles” which Students could borrow if they do not have sufficient technological support at home. Fundraising – Proceeds from the School’s Stall at the most recent “Yankalilla Kids’ Market” are to go to a “Screen-printing Workshop” at the School (with more Fundraising Events planned). School Captains have decided on making a book to sell at the next Fundraising Event of favourite Family Recipes with contributions from the “Team Rapid” Community. School Captains have also decided to get Gardening back up at the School with plans for Cooking with potential Harvests! Play Ground – aim is to have a Plan before December 2021 when the provision of Facilities and Site Works in Government Schools is going to be privatised. The Governing Council’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 7 September 2021 from 7PM “On Site” at the School with Social Distancing.
