Student Free Day
Friday 11th March 2022

Dear Rapid Bay families,

Welcome to the 2022 School Year! Wow, what a start?! We welcomed back our students of essential workers as well as our Receptions, Year 1’s and Year 7’s on site in Week 1. We had home learning for Years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 which came with some teething issues initially, but thanks to parents, students and staff doing their best, showing resilience and willingness to learn together we managed to get through. We were over the moon to be able to welcome all students back into their classrooms in week 2.

Welcome
We had a very successful start for our Receptions. It’s a big jump from kindy to full school days and having to show up again after day 1. Thanks again to parents who were doing drop offs and being respectful of the current Covid guidelines. This year we welcome 5 new Receptions to our school. They have all made positive starts to their schooling and it is great to see their smiling faces and their enthusiasm for learning and making new friends.

This year we also welcome our new Middle Primary teacher Taylah Sanders. She will be teaching alongside Jo Cramond. Check out her Spotlight page below.

Communication
We have Skool Loop for school communication and Class Dojo for classroom communication. Streamlining our communication will help us all to communicate better and with more consistency. We place high importance on the partnership between you and your child’s teachers. So, if you haven’t had a chance to join Class Dojo, please make the time to do so and connect with your child’s teacher. If you have any issues or concerns, the first point of call is always the class teacher. Please check out class dojo for Skool Loop classroom and school passwords.

New Desks
Students are super excited to get some new desks in the Middle Primary/ Upper Primary Classroom. They were great helpers putting the desks together without instructions and working on valuable tech skills, problem solving skills and a whole lot of resilience. It was great to see the teamwork between our Middle Primary and Upper Primary Classes.

Family Night Postponed
Unfortunately, we have made the decision to postpone our family night until later in the term. We did explore options including having an online event, however as a staff we do not believe that this will do the event justice. Our Family Night is a fantastic and well supported event each year and it is our strong preference to hold a night as a face-to-face event on site. The AGM would then follow the Family Night for anyone interested in joining our wonderful Governing Council there are more details below. Please keep an eye out for the details of the night in upcoming weeks.

Governing Council
Joining Governing Council or a sub-committee is a wonderful and rewarding experience. You get to work with a fantastic team consisting of parents, staff, student council and community members. There are two Governing Council meetings each term generally in Weeks 3 and 8 online or in the library depending on circumstances at the time. Our current sub-committees include finance and grounds/fundraising. Those on the committees are the ‘doers’, steering projects and paving the way for new ideas that add value to the school’s programs. Your voice is very important. If you have a passion to be involved, click on the link below this will take you to our website to nominate yourself for a position for Governing Council in 2022. Our AGM will take place later in the term following our Family Night. If you would like to nominate or re-nominate for GC, click the link below and nominate today. Hope to see you at the AGM later in the term.

Thank you again for being so kind, patient and understanding during the current circumstances to the beginning of our year. I am looking forward to the year ahead with you and your children.

Jen

Staff Spotlight

Taylah Sanders answers some tricky questions from our students

I grew up by the river in a town called Renmark. Now I live on a farm on Pages Flat Rd with my fiancé and our two dogs, Whippa and Nala. In my spare time I like to create. I like to draw, cook and build things. I also like to go on camping and care for our farm animals.

Ever since watching Matilda as a little girl, I have aspired to be just like Miss Honey.

If you could not be a teacher...
I would like to be a nurse because I like to care for people and help them when they are in need.
If you could be in any musical or movie, what would it be?
After watching the new Spiderman recently, I think it would be very cool to play Spiderman for a day.
Star trek or Star Wars?
I have a confession. I haven't watched either. Come tell me about them and I help me decide which is better.
What superpower would you like?
I would love to be able to teleport. I think it would be super fun to be able to visit any place and time.
Any advice for Rapid Bay students?
Be kind to one another and dream big! You can do anything if you put your mind to it :)
