Pastoral Care at Rapid Bay Primary School
Rapid Bay Primary has been part of the National Schools Chaplaincy Program since 2007. Our current Pastoral Care Worker, Gina Hunt, has been part of our school community since the beginning of 2013. She came with particular experience in working in a school community from the previous five years at Myponga Primary School, where she continues to provide pastoral care alongside our local school community of Rapid Bay. She holds a Certificate IV in Youth Work, is a trained Mental Health First Aider and has completed training in many areas which are useful in a school community.
Gina is married and the mother and grandmother to four adult children and three grandchildren. She has worked in the visual arts industry for over 30 years and brings many visual arts teaching skills with her to the classroom. She is an avid reader, amateur historian, gardener and seamstress with regular involvement in her own church and the wider community.
Gina spends most of her time, on the one to two days per week she is at her school, in the classrooms providing emotional, physical, mental and spiritual support to students as they learn. Gina provides well-being support to students, staff and parents by giving them a listeni9ng ear, a sounding board for ideas and an encouraging word when they need it. She provides support to students in learning social and life skills through programs such as “What’s the Buzz?”, craft and cooking activities. Gina attends camps and excursions to provide support and encouragement to students as they undertake new experiences. She is a resource person for support agencies, both Government and NGO, putting families in touch with the services most able to meet their needs.
Gina is supported by the local Yankalilla and Districts Interchurch Council and is employed by Schools Ministry Group.
